Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Mitigation and Resilience in Urban Areas

چکیده
Abstract Urban areas face several environmental problems and risks related to water management, such as floods degradation of quality, enhancing population vulnerability threatening urban sustainability. These are expected be exacerbated with increasing urbanization climate change, which leads higher frequency intensity hydrometeorological extremes. Moving towards more flood resilient cities has proven a major challenge, particularly considering the high concentration economic activities and, thus, pressure on limited available space. Nature-based solutions (NBS) in favour stormwater retention, infiltration, filtration, contributing mitigation enhancement quality. The effectiveness different NBS however, is influenced by design placement aspects, but network connected elements can improve enhance resilience. Stronger evidence advantages NBS, still required overcome current challenges barriers impairing their wider implementation areas.

Analysing the Effects of Flood-Resilience Technologies in Urban Areas Using a Synthetic Model Approach
Flood protection systems with their spatial effects play an important role in managing and reducing flood risks. The planning and decision process as well as the technical implementation are well organized and often exercised. However, building-related flood-resilience technologies (FReT) are often neglected due to the absence of suitable approaches to analyse and to integrate such measures in ...
متن کاملA Framework for Flood Risk Analysis and Benefit Assessment of Flood Control Measures in Urban Areas
Flood risk analysis is more complex in urban areas than that in rural areas because of their closely packed buildings, different kinds of land uses, and large number of flood control works and drainage systems. The purpose of this paper is to propose a practical framework for flood risk analysis and benefit assessment of flood control measures in urban areas. Based on the concept of disaster ri...

متن کاملFlood Characteristics and Mitigation Issues
Among various natural disasters floods make the largest impact in terms of number of casualties, people affected and property lost. Flood data during the past 30 years show that flood events that cause significant impacts have increased at a steady rate. Available data suggest that this increase could be attributed to increasing population and exposure, increasing property values located in vul...
